Place Value
Every number can be formed using
ten digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. The value of a digit depends on
its place in the number. This is what is known as place value.
In the number system we use the place value is based on groups of tens.

- Our number system is grouped into
periods - ones - thousands - millions - billions
- Each group has three divisions
- ones - tens - hundreds
- The number above is read as: three
million six hundred twenty-five thousand one hundred ninety-seven.

in expanded notation in three ways:
